Overview
These paintings came after several years of painting portraits of individual trees. While I was seeking to describe them in the landscape through abstraction and patterning, I was able to observe the same trees through several seasons. Now, some of the subjects that have inspired paintings include birds eating red berries at sunrise, young girls playing house in a tree, and a dream of a tree in my grandmother’s yard. I use organic shapes and color to describe the forms and to offer a sense of connection to memory. I continue to use selective outlining to invite the viewer into the space of the image. I will always make paintings and look at art as a source of visual delight, especially when some surprising but underlying aspect of life is made visible through the medium.
